Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning for Pet Owners

We love our pets and they bring us and our families so much joy, but owning a pet cat or dog can create a lot more housekeeping! Even if you bathe your pet very frequently, the natural oils in their coats can cause a great many problems. This oil can be deposited when your pet brushes against the staircarpet, lies on your rug  or sits on your couch. The oil becomes tacky and becomes a big dirty patch as dirt and soil are attracted to it over time.
Carpets and upholstery can also be a source of fur and hair. Even the most powerful vacuums cannot get rid of hair deep in the carpet pile.

The Most Common Problems

Pet stains and odors are the most common problems for pet owners. Pet owners are most likely to have to deal with these stains. It’s tempting to try to clean them up, but it is best to be careful. If homeowners don’t take care when cleaning their pets, they could leave permanent marks. Homeowners who attempt to clean pet stains can cause damage to carpet pile, fabrics, and carpet color. This type of damage is not easily repaired so it is important to take care when cleaning your carpet. These are some tips to help you clean up after a pet accidents on your carpets or upholstery.

Deal With the Stain Quickly

It is important to address the stain immediately, but you should also get your tools ready.
Don’t  panic when you find a pet stain on their carpet. Too many home owners get  try aggressive tactics to  remove the stain and it can just make the situation worse. Fabric on furniture or  carpet pile is more fragile when wet and can be distorted permanently   by  scrubbing with a brush or coarse cloth.

Some Guidelines to Cleaning a Pet Stain
  1. Use only a  cleaning product that you can trust and have used previously
  2. The pH value of the cleaning product must not exceed the tolerance limits of carpet fibers and colors. This is difficult because there are very few cleaners that have their pH values listed on their labels.
  3. Do NOT use any cleaner with  oxi- and oxy as an ingredient or in the name. They can cause carpet and upholstery to become discolored
  4. Be gentle with the stain and patient
Do not scrub, rub or scrub the stain.
  5. Blot the stain with a soft cloth and rinse it off.
