Some of the many events around Altrincham WA14

Altrincham Festival  is a full day of fun for all the family with a fun fair and a grand parade complete with marching bands and costume competition. There is always free entertainment at the festival showground and many fringe events  happening  in different venues throughout the town – pub quizzes, choir performances and dance competitions.  The festival is a fund raiser for a different charity each year and several months before the festival takes place in July there is a massive drive to recruit the hundreds of volunteers from the community that are required to help with the event on the day but also for many weeks before.

Some of the events offered are a car boot sale, a dog show, quality food and drink stalls and a fun fair.

The Altrincham festival started in 1977 as part of the Queens silver jubilee celebrations and has always been run and organised by volunteers and has always been for non-profit causes. There are plenty of opportunities for local good causes, charities and businesses to show case what they do and to participate as fund raisers or to have a traders stall or enter a competition or have a float in the parade. The aim of the festival is to create community-wide participation and unity.

The festival is now known for being the biggest free festival in Trafford and is a Community Interest Company and has several sub sections that are popular in their own right – the Arts Festival and Altrincham Food festival.

Later in the year another very popular festival takes place in Goose Green Altrincham, the Music Festival organised by Altrincham Unlimited. The festival takes place over two days on the weekend of the August bank holiday Saturday and Sunday, fabulous music is accompanied by fabulous food from   the many excellent  Goose Green bars and restaurants. Childrens activities are organised from noon on Saturday and 11am on Sunday. This is only the fifth Goose Green Altrincham Music festival but its popularity is obvious and the organisers have an impressive line up of talent showcasing many of our local music stars and providing an opportunity for all music lovers to attend and participate . There is as usual no entry charge and many of the events are free with music from noon to 8pm.

The Goose Green Festival is only a few minutes walk from Altrincham market and the Stamford Quarter shopping area and is central to the town with easy access to rail, tram, bus and plenty of parking.
