The Stretford M32 area of Manchester has some beautiful parks providing walkers, runners, cyclists and families green leafy places to enjoy leisure activities and relax in beautiful surroundings away from the concrete and traffic in the busy areas of Stretford Trafford
Longford Park
is the largest park in Trafford, there are many facilities some of which are a Pets Corner, Tennis Courts, a wildlife Garden, junior and senior play areas, a climbing boulder, a café for refreshments with toilet facilities, football and rugby pitches, Bowling greens, basketball courts and an athletics stadium and there is also a flourishing community allotment.
The athletics stadium is on the eastern side of the park and is home to Trafford Athletics club, Longfords health and fitness club and Trafford Simply cycling club. The stadium is also where the weekly Saturday 5km park run happens. The run begins at 9.00 am and participants must register first.
There are two crown green bowling clubs in the park , the Longford retired gentlemans club and the Longford Ladies club. The two groups are open between Easter and September and do meet unofficially during the winter. They are happy to welcome new members.
The Pets Corner is a unique feature of Longford Park and only exists because of the dedicated volunteers that stepped up in 2014 when due to council cuts the funding for Pets corner was axed. Since 2014 the corner has received steady funding to pay vets bills and food and shelter bills for the animals including CCTV installation. Chickens, guinea pigs rabbits ducks and 2 goats live at the Pets corner and provide joy to the many visitors they have every day.
